Hand Coloring

What makes a good hand coloring print is the unique pictures that you take that the subject could be multiple colors. What I intend to use as subjects are flowers, people with unique clothing on, or a unique scenery that is simple. It really depends on the picture to determine if you color the whole picture or only parts. If you are coloring a flower then I would only color the flower, but if I had a simple scenery then I would color the whole picture. I really liked my hand coloring pictures because I could change the colors to what I wanted them to be. My balloon picture I really liked because it was hand coloring and the use of lines. I liked my pumpkin hand coloring picture because it had a lot of detail but the detail was big enough that I could color it different colors. What I didn't like about my pumpkin picture is that I didn't color the whole picture when I should have.

Cross Processing

Cross processing is taking a colored photo that you have taken and developing it in different chemicals so that either the picture has a more orange tint to it or a more blue green tint. It brings out the colors in the photo more. What makes a good cross processing print is the unique coloring and the simple subject with lots of color. For a subject I intend on using neat scenery shots that are unique around sunrise or sunset. Also my subjects would possibly be people with bight clothing or in a bright scene. I did accompish what i wanted to be the scenery shots that I got turned out with neat coloring through clouds and near the water. In my prints, I liked the coloring that turned out. What I didn't like was that they turned out darker then I thought they were going to be.

Solarization

This is a good solarization photo because it gives you an eery feeling and because the detail in the water and in the metal really pop.
This is a good solarization photo because it shows the use of layering and the detail of the metal hydrant.
This is a good solarization picture because the contrast in the trees make the details pop and draw you in the photo.
This is a good solarization photo because it brings out the detail ion the bike and makes it look tougher than a normal picture.

In my future photos using solarization, I plan on my subjects being senery or objects that can look scary when solarized. It is important to keep these photos fairly simple because if you don't then you dont get any detail and the blacks will over take the photo. I love my solarized photos because they show tons of detail and because there is a lot of contrast in the photo it helps create and eery feeling to the photo.

Polaroid

This is a good polaroid photo because it has a good subject and all the dark colors transfered eventhough normally dark colors dont turn out so well.
This is a goods polaroid photo because the subject is simple and they made sure that there subject was not dark so that the detail and colors show.

This is a good polaroid transfer because the coloring of the picture is interesting to look at and the subjects are simple.
This is a good polaroid tranfer because it makes the oicture look old and like it was taken in the past. Also because the simple colors helped the subject pop in the picture.

In the future when shooting polaroid film, I plan on taking intresting light lighting that will show a lot of detail. Also I plan on taking pictures of instresting still objects so that I know that the colors will come out correctly.

In my first polaroid picture of my brother and his friend at the football game, I liked it because even though it was of people, the bright jerseys made the color on the transfer pop and made the picture look like a painting. In my second polaroid transfer, I didn't like it as much because the background was to dark and it had lift off because of that. It wasn't as good as my first one because it wasn't as clear. I only achieved the coloring that I wanted to do in the first photo not the second. In the first photo, the coloring is perfect and in the second photo the coloring isn't as good because of lift off.

Layering

In this photo ther are six layers;the two gys in the very front, the hand with the bucket, the two wrestling and animal, the guy on the horse, the ground, and the sky. What makes this photo work is that it show not only great usage of layering but also framing. Some of the layers intersect but it doesn't interfer with the picture because of the framing elimate, you can see what's going on in each layer.

In this photo there are six layers; the graveyard, the orange grass, the green shrubs, the distant valley, the mountain range, and the sky. What makes this photo work is that you travel through the picture by seeing the white crosses then looking deeper seeing the white clouds. The layers semi- intersect because it is a long distance shot but you can definately tell where the layers are.

In this photo there are four layers; the dog, the group of people, the floor, and the painting in the background. What makes this photo work is that it makes you travel through the picture and gives you the feeling of that one night. The layers do not intersect which helps the fluidity of the picture.

This photo has five layers; the person, the tables, the blue chairs, the pictures on the walls, and the floor. What makes this picture work is that it is a simple picture but the layers make it interesting to look at. The layers are intersecting which kind of makes it hard to pick out the specific layers.

This photo is a Portrait with usage of layering. this photo has five layers; the girl in the red, the girl in the blue, the fans, the ground, and the car.

This assignment makes me a better photographer because it makes me realize that the more layers I have in any picture, the more interseting the picture is to look at. Also it helps me realize that I have to be patient to get the correct photo.

Fiber Paper is a museum grade paper because the quality of the picture is better and you can do more with your picture.

My layering pictures I liked. The first one with the helmet in the foreground and the huddle in the back ground I liked bacause it was unique and had four or five layers in it. The second one was my favorite because not only did I use layering, I use a little bit of framing in the photo too. It is one of my best pictures.

3200 Film

I chose these two photos because of the lighting. The lighting is different but looks good. Also because the detail of the dresses in this film makes it more unique. I can use these pictures to influence my work by trying to use more intresting lighting to convey more emotion in the photo. The grain in these photos looks really good and they dont have to much to ruin the picture. In my 3200 roll, sone of the pictures had good lighting but most of them didnt turn out the way I wanted it to look. If I was to shoot another roll I would focus more on unique dramatic lighting and unique poses. The ISO that I used while shooting my roll was 3200. The advantages of this film is that if you are taking pictures of people, it gives the scene a softer feel to it. The disadvantage is that it wont be completely focused.

Photo 2- First roll

The subjects in my first roll was mainly nature and people.  The first photo I printed was a portrait of Kayla Roberts. I liked this photo because she was framed between two tree branches and the lighting was softer due to the sun going behind clouds. The second photo I printed was of hands holding a flower.  I liked this photo because the photo caught my eye and the hands lead you into the main focus, the flower. The improvements that should be made on the first one would be that i need to remember the rule of thirds and burn in her shirt a little more so it isn't distracting. In the second photo I should have used the rule of thirds instead of having the subject in the middle of the photo. I need to improve on reading my light meter when taking a picture and deciding whether or not I need to over expose or under expose to get a better photo. I felt very comfortable dodging and burning my photos.

National Geographic Video

5 Ideas
  • Lighting has to be right
  • framing can be key
  • don't intersect objects in the photo
  • rule of thirds makes the photo interesting
  • eyes need to pop in pictures
My favorite photographer would have to be Steve McCurry because his photos are unique and makes sure that all of his pictures have meaning.

My favorite photograph would bethe picture of the little boy holding the gun to his head bacause it shows a lot of meaning and the reality of life.

Yes these photos did help reinforce what we have learned in class, like lighting, eyes, not intersecting, and emotion. One that i noticed the most was eyes, especially in the famous photo of the afgani girl. The eyes draw you into the picture. Another one that i noticed a lot wasnot intersecting, especially in the photo with the three boats. Because they boats are not intersecting, the picture is more appealing and tells a story.

Discussion on Lighting

Using dramatic lighting you under expose the the picture so you get the lighting right.
On a normal lighting you take your normal exposure.

Portrait

What makes a good Portrait??
What makes a good portrait for me is that the eyes must stand out and you must be drawn to them. Also simplicity because if you have too many distractions then it takes away from the person in the photo. Another thing that makes a good portrait is that it must show the persons personality or show some type of emotion to convey the observer.

My Portrait

I'm okay with this photo but i would change where the subject is. I would have rather pushed her up a little more so she would cover the rule of thirds.

Portraits

I was attracted to this photo because of the lighting.

I was attracted to this photo because of the eyes.

I was attracted to this photo because of the lighting on her face.

I was attracted to this photo because of the lighting.

I was attracted to this photo because of the lighting and her eyes.

Positive/ Negitive

I like this photo because the coloring is right and  the hands connect with the other pictures. I don't think I would have changed anything because everything fits witht the others.

My Framing

I am happy with this photo somewhat. I like the idea i had but i would have focused it a little more and burn the floor more so that the people is what you look at first.

Framing

I was attracted to this photo because the bird and the structure are not intersecting.

I was attracted to this photo because with the leaves surrounding the building, it brings a sense of paradise to it.

I was attracted to this photo because the person was framed as well as his reflection.

I was attracted to this photo because it has a sense of mystery since it is only a siloet of the person.

I was attracted to this photo because the clouds are perfectly framed within the circle.
